A security breach caused panic among fans during Saturday night’s Uganda Boxing Champions League event at the Lugogo Indoor Arena, prompting swift reaction from Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) President Moses Muhangi.
The incident unfolded amidst one of the largest crowds ever seen at the league, sparking concern over the preparedness of the event’s security apparatus. In his official address following the incident, President Muhangi promised tighter security measures going forward.
“We are going to question where the head of security, Twaib Mayanja, was at the time of the breach,” Muhangi stated. “Along with officer Kagoda, who was on duty that night, we will assess what went wrong and ensure it never happens again.”
Muhangi assured fans that UBF will collaborate more closely with security teams to enhance surveillance and crowd control at future events. He acknowledged the league’s growing popularity, citing the record turnout on the night, and emphasized that safety remains a top priority.
The UBF President also used the platform to speak on the progress of the new national sports law enforcement, noting that the federation continues to engage with relevant authorities to ensure better governance and accountability in Ugandan sports.
Despite the disruption, the Champions League program continued successfully, with high-energy bouts delivering excitement for the fans.
As UBF looks ahead, the message is clear: bigger crowds will be met with stronger security.
