UBF Licensing Commission Begins Issuing Official Professional Boxing L

The Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) Licensing Commission, under the leadership of Madam Maureen Mulangira, popularly known as “Maama Bikonde,” has officially rolled out the new Professional Boxing Licenses for all Ugandan professional boxers.

According to the Commission, the new license books — priced at UGX 30,000 (approximately USD 8.74) — are now a mandatory requirement for all boxers who wish to compete in professional boxing events under the UBF banner.

The move marks a significant step toward streamlining and professionalizing the sport in Uganda. Every licensed boxer will now possess a verifiable identity book confirming their registration and eligibility to participate in officially sanctioned professional bouts both locally and internationally.

Purpose and Importance of the License

The new professional license will serve several critical functions:

  • Proof of Legitimacy: Confirms that the boxer is officially recognized and registered under the Uganda Boxing Federation’s professional wing.
  • Competition Eligibility: Only licensed boxers will be cleared to participate in UBF-sanctioned professional events, both in Uganda and abroad.
  • Record Keeping: The license will help the Commission maintain accurate records of active professional boxers, their promoters, and event participation.
  • Protection and Regulation: It allows the UBF to monitor boxer welfare, ensure fair matchmaking, and uphold professional standards within the sport.

Boxers who have already made payments for the license are advised to present valid proof of payment at the UBF offices in Lugogo to collect their official license books.

Dangers of Not Having a Pro License

The Federation cautions that failure to obtain a valid professional license may come with serious consequences. Boxers without a license:

  • Will not be allowed to participate in any UBF-sanctioned professional event.
  • Risk disqualification or suspension from official competitions.
  • May lose recognition of their records and titles on local and international boxing databases.
  • Could face penalties for engaging in unauthorized or unsanctioned professional fights.

UBF emphasizes that this initiative is part of a broader plan to professionalize Uganda’s boxing industry, enhance accountability, and align with international boxing governance standards.

Boxers, managers, and promoters are therefore encouraged to comply promptly to ensure smooth participation in upcoming events and maintain their professional standing.
