Uganda’s campaign at the 2025 IBA Men’s Elite World Championships has tightened dramatically, with only two boxers now remaining in contention: unbeaten standout Bob Turyatemba and promising contender Ziikama Sabbath Mark.
The latest developments in Dubai saw Uganda’s hopes reduced after early exits from both Farahat Manirola, who suffered a shock defeat to Fedorov Pavel, and Mulindwa Fahad “Kingkong” as well as Malindi Baker, who also failed to progress.
Turyatemba Leads Uganda’s Charge
Uganda’s unbeaten star Bob Turyatemba continues to shine, securing a strong victory in his opening bout. The 13–0 professional (7 KOs), ranked 3rd in Uganda and 134th worldwide, remains one of the nation’s biggest medal hopefuls and has quickly become the face of Uganda’s campaign in Dubai.
Ziikama Advances by Walkover
Ziikama Sabbath Mark also remains in contention after advancing through a walkover, keeping Uganda’s chances alive as the tournament enters more competitive rounds.
A Tough Turn for Uganda
The exits of Manirola, Kingkong, and Baker have been a major blow to what was expected to be one of Uganda’s strongest squads in recent years. Manirola’s early defeat was especially shocking, considering his ranking and knockout-heavy professional résumé.
Still, the spirit in the camp remains high as Uganda rallies behind the two remaining fighters.
All Eyes on Bob and Ziikama
With the record-breaking $8 million prize pool still up for grabs, the pressure and excitement continue to build. Uganda now pins its hopes on:
- Bob Turyatemba – A dominant, unbeaten fighter with major medal potential
- Ziikama Sabbath Mark – Through to the next stage and preparing for his first fight
As the competition intensifies at the Dubai Tennis Stadium, Uganda’s focus sharpens on its last two contenders. The journey has grown tougher, but the dream of medals — and a place in history — remains very much alive.
