Uganda’s boxing community has finally received the news it has been demanding for months. The African Boxing Union (ABU) has released its November 2025 rankings, and—for the first time this year—Uganda’s top two super featherweight contenders, Musuza Hassan and Joshua Tusingwire, have officially entered the continental list.
This update, which the ABU notes reflects performance results up to December 1, 2025, ends weeks of debate, criticism, and confusion surrounding the omission of the country’s highest-ranked fighters.
🥊 Musuza and Tusingwire Finally Recognized
In a long-awaited correction, Musuza Hassan, Uganda’s number one super featherweight (1/17 nationally, 230/2,065 worldwide), has been ranked 16th in Africa. Close behind him is Joshua Tusingwire, the national number two (2/17 in Uganda, 232/2,065 worldwide), who lands at 17th place in the ABU standings.
The rankings also show Emmanuel Muwanguzi, who had controversially appeared ahead of the pair in September and October, now placed at 18th—a positioning many insiders argue finally reflects the true competitive order in Uganda.
🔍 How the Controversy Began
For two consecutive months, Muwanguzi appeared in the ABU top list despite being ranked third nationally (3/17) and 239th globally (239/2,065). Meanwhile, Musuza and Tusingwire—clearly ahead of him both domestically and internationally—were nowhere to be seen.
The omissions triggered a wave of criticism, with fans, trainers, and promoters accusing the ABU of inconsistency and lack of transparency.
“How can number three make the list when number one and two don’t even appear?” one promoter asked during October’s heated debate. “Rankings should reflect merit and performance, not politics.”
💬 Fans and Promoters Had Called for Change
Social media platforms have been filled with appeals for fairness. Many felt that leaving out Uganda’s most accomplished fighters risked damaging the credibility of the continental rating system and demoralizing active athletes.
The November correction now appears to validate those concerns and bring relief to the country’s boxing fraternity.
🇺🇬 Uganda’s Continental Momentum Grows
Uganda continues to strengthen its reputation as one of Africa’s fastest-rising boxing nations. With elite fighters like Shadir Musa Bwogi, Sulaiman Segawa, David Ssemejju, Stanley Mugerwa, and now the trio of Musuza, Tusingwire, and Muwanguzi all featuring prominently on the continental stage, the country’s competitive profile has never looked better.
🔭 What This Means Moving Forward
The updated rankings not only restore confidence but also open the door for future regional title opportunities. Uganda’s super featherweight division is now correctly represented, and fans expect more clarity and consistency from the ABU going forward.
As the focus now shifts to upcoming continental matchups, the boxing community will closely watch whether this transparency continues into 2026.
For now, one thing is clear:
Uganda’s top super featherweights have finally received the recognition they earned in the ring.
