Uganda’s U.S.-based featherweight contender, Sulaiman “The Ruler” Segawa, is set to make a highly anticipated return to the ring this Friday, September 5, 2025, when he takes on Mexico’s Bryan Acosta at the CareFirst Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington, D.C.
The 10-round clash comes nearly a year after Segawa’s controversial loss to American star Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington, which cost him the WBC Silver Featherweight title. Ranked sixth in the world by the WBC, Segawa (23-5-1, 17 KOs) is determined to rebound in emphatic style against Acosta (20-1, 8 KOs), whose only career loss came just last month against Ramon Cardenas.
Segawa, a former Uganda national team southpaw, has built a reputation for dismantling Mexican opposition, with past knockout victories over Hector Lopez Jr., Gadwin Rosa, and Ernesto Guirrero. Confident and sharp ahead of the bout, he declared:
“I respect Acosta, but I believe he’s underestimating my experience and power. He’ll quickly learn how tough it is to face me.”
The fight is part of a stacked card headlined by the NABF Lightweight title bout between American Jordan White and Mexican Rene Tellez Giron. Promoter Daniel Rubin is backing Segawa to shine, saying, “Sulaiman has the skill, heart, and focus to deliver a memorable performance this Friday.”
