HORSE POWER FALLS SHORT IN EMOTIONAL RETURN TO THE RING

Lugogo, June 28, 2025 — The comeback story everyone hoped would end in triumph instead closed on a bittersweet note, as Serugo Bashir, famously known as Horse Power, suffered a unanimous decision (UD) loss to Kasasa Isaac in his return bout at the MTN Arena Lugogo.

This was Serugo’s first fight since a horrific attack by thugs six months ago nearly ended not just his boxing career, but his life. Having spent months in recovery and physical rehabilitation, his return to the Uganda Boxing Champions League was hailed as an inspirational moment for the sport.

But while his heart and determination were undeniable, the ring told a different story.

From the opening bell, Kasasa showed sharpness and control, effectively using his range and movement to neutralize Serugo’s usual pressure-heavy style. Though Horse Power had flashes of his former brilliance, including a rally in the third round that had the crowd on its feet, the lack of recent competitive action appeared to affect his rhythm and conditioning.

The judges scored the bout unanimously in favour of Kasasa Isaac, who now secures a significant win in the Champions League’s stacked 71kg division.

Despite the defeat, Serugo received a standing ovation from the crowd—fans applauding not just the effort, but the journey. He stood tall in the ring, lifting his gloves high, a symbol of perseverance.

“It’s not the result I wanted, but just being back in here is a victory,” Serugo told reporters after the fight. “This is only the beginning. I’m not done yet.”

Tonight’s action-packed card was headlined by Mbayo Patrick vs. Farahat Manirola, but the emotional spotlight undoubtedly belonged to Serugo’s brave return.

Though he didn’t leave with a win, Horse Power’s comeback was a powerful reminder that true champions fight through more than just rounds—they fight through life.
