In a surprising revelation, Coach Skills Kalungu of Sparks Boxing Academy has disclosed the reason behind his captain Isaac Kamoga’s lone professional defeat.
Kamoga, who currently holds a record of 7 bouts with 6 wins (4 by knockout) and only 1 loss, was stopped by Uganda’s dangerous southpaw Joshua Tusingwire. Tusingwire himself boasts an impressive record of 8 fights, 7 wins, and just 1 loss, that loss being a narrow split decision against Musuza Hassan.
For months, many boxing fans believed that Tusingwire’s southpaw stance and sharp style were the main reasons Kamoga suffered defeat. However, Coach Kalungu has now broken his silence. He revealed that on the night of the fight, Kamoga was battling illness, a factor that heavily affected his performance.
“My boy Kamoga was not himself that day—he was sick,” Coach Kalungu told reporters. “That’s the secret people didn’t know. If Joshua Tusingwire is truly ready, let him step up now for a rematch. This time, a healthy Kamoga will prove who the real champion is.”
With these revelations, the possibility of a rematch between Kamoga and Tusingwire has sparked renewed excitement among boxing fans. Should the two warriors meet again, it promises to be one of Uganda’s most thrilling domestic showdowns.
