Breaking News: Uganda’s Sula Segawa to Fight in Africa After 10 Years Away!

Uganda’s pride, Sulaiman “Sula” Segawa, is set for a historic comeback on African soil after ten years away from the East African boxing ring. The American-based Ugandan featherweight will fight in the highly anticipated “Jungle in the Rumble” mega boxing event in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, scheduled for Saturday, October 31, 2026.

Segawa, a former WBC USA Featherweight Champion and ex-WBC Silver Featherweight Titleholder, last fought in East Africa on October 30, 2015, when he defeated Hakim Waibale by unanimous decision at the Hilton Hotel, Kampala. Since then, he has carved out a successful international career in the United States.

  Segawa’s Career at a Glance

  • Record: 25 fights – 17 wins (6 KOs), 5 losses, 3 draws
  • Rankings: #1 of 12 in Uganda (featherweight), #27 of 1,795 worldwide
  • Biggest Triumph: Defeated Ruben Villa at Palms Casino, Las Vegas (July 13, 2024) to capture the WBC Silver Featherweight Title.
  • Recent Challenge: Lost the same title to Bruce Carrington at Madison Square Garden, New York (Sept 27, 2024).
  • Next Bout: Scheduled against Bryan Acosta on September 5, 2025, at the Entertainment and Sports Arena, Washington.

His scheduled appearance in Kinshasa next year is already being dubbed “the Ali–Foreman of this generation”, as organizers want the event to mirror the legendary 1974 “Rumble in the Jungle”, where Muhammad Ali stunned the world by defeating George Foreman.

A Mega Boxing Showcase in Africa

The “Jungle in the Rumble” promises to be one of the biggest boxing nights ever staged on the African continent. The event is powered by nine promoters and a lineup of elite international matchmakers, signaling the global scale of the production.

Segawa will not be Uganda’s sole representative in Kinshasa. Stanley Mugerwa, one of Uganda’s leading super welterweights, has also been confirmed to feature on the card — giving the East African nation a double dose of pride in this global showcase.

A Night for the History Books

For Segawa, this fight represents more than just another bout. It is a symbolic return home after a decade away, a chance to showcase the progress of Ugandan boxing on one of the grandest stages Africa has ever seen.

Mark the date: October 31, 2026.
The echoes of Ali vs. Foreman will once again resound in Kinshasa as Sulaiman Segawa joins the continent’s greatest boxing spectacle — “Jungle in the Rumble.”
