“All Eyes on September 13: Uganda’s Ssali & Nyanzi Take the World Stage!”

It will be a defining weekend for Ugandan boxing as two of the country’s brightest prospects step onto international stages thousands of miles from home. On Saturday, September 13, 2025, Ugandan fans will have their eyes on both Dubai and Germany, where Ezra “The Money Weza” Ssali and Joshua “The Spyder” Nyanzi are set to fight in career-shaping contests.

Ezra Ssali’s International Debut in Dubai

Rising star Ezra Ssali (5–0, 3 KOs) from Kalinabili Boxing Club under Zebra Mando Promotions will make his much-anticipated international debut at the ound 10 Boxing Club in Dubai.

The undefeated Ugandan, ranked 1st in Uganda and 353rd worldwide in the super flyweight division, faces a stern test against the experienced Sultan Al Nuaimi (12–0, 7 KOs). Despite Al Nuaimi’s inactivity, he enters the ring with 53 rounds of pro experience compared to Ssali’s 20 rounds, giving him the edge in ring time.

But Ssali, the reigning Ugandan bantamweight champion after a hard-fought split decision win over Joseph Katabi, carries a dangerous 60% knockout ratio and the ambition to make history as the first Uganda-based fighter to secure victory in Dubai this year.

Joshua Nyanzi Challenges for Two Titles in Germany

On the same night in Hameln, Germany, Uganda’s Joshua “The Spyder” Nyanzi(12–3, 6 KOs) will be looking to seize the biggest opportunity of his career when he battles Ahmad Ali (20–1, 13 KOs) at Rattenfänger Halle.

The fight, scheduled for 10 rounds, carries major stakes with both the IBF European Super Welterweight Title and the IBO International Super Welterweight Title on the line.

Nyanzi, ranked 4th in Uganda and 337th worldwide, is coming off a statement 5th-round TKO victory over Ibrahim Kitaka. This will be his second bout in Germany, with his first ending in a points loss to Piergiulio Ruhe in 2024. A win this weekend would not only avenge that defeat on German soil but also catapult him up the continental rankings.

His opponent, Ahmad Ali, is a dangerous German fighter ranked 10th nationally and 228th worldwide, with his only loss coming against Felice Moncelli. Though a natural middleweight, Ali has experience at super welterweight, making this a battle of styles and weight-class adjustments.

 Ugandans in Action Abroad

For Uganda, September 13 marks a rare double-feature on the international stage. Ssali’s clash in Dubai represents the hunger of a young champion eager to test himself outside Africa, while Nyanzi’s title bid in Germany showcases the experience and determination of a fighter aiming to climb back into global contention.

As Ugandan boxing continues to rise, all eyes will be on these two warriors carrying the nation’s hopes abroad this weekend. Win or lose, both fights are set to define their careers and write another chapter in Uganda’s boxing journey.
