ABU Rankings Shock Uganda Again — Muwanguzi’s In, But Musuza & Tusingwire Snubbed!

Bob Turyatemba keeps his place on the continental list — but controversy deepens as Musuza Hassan and Joshua Tusingwire are left out again, raising tough questions about ABU’s ranking system

The African Boxing Union (ABU) has dropped its October 2025 rankings, and while Uganda still maintains a visible presence, the latest update has reignited a storm of criticism within the country’s boxing circles.

After earning his long-awaited spot in September, Bob Turyatemba continues to hold his ground among Africa’s elite welterweights — a testament to his consistency and growing reputation. But for the second month in a row, Uganda’s super featherweight division has been thrown into controversy.

Muwanguzi In, But Where Are Musuza and Tusingwire?

Once again, Emmanuel Muwanguzi appears in the continental top list — despite being ranked third nationally (3/17) and 236th globally (236/2,071).

Meanwhile, Uganda’s top two in the same category —

  • Musuza Hassan (1/17 in Uganda, 225/2,071 worldwide)
  • Joshua Tusingwire (2/17 in Uganda, 227/2,071 worldwide)

have been completely omitted for the second consecutive month.

Fans and insiders are now demanding answers: How can Uganda’s third-ranked boxer make the continental cut while the top two remain invisible?

 Fans, Promoters Demand Transparency

Social media has been buzzing since the rankings dropped. Local promoters and trainers have accused the ABU of inconsistency, calling for transparency in how fighters are evaluated.

“We are proud of Bob, but the super featherweight list makes no sense,” one promoter told our reporter. “If rankings are about merit and recent fights, then our number one and two deserve recognition more than anyone else.”

The debate has grown louder, with many boxing stakeholders warning that unclear ranking systems risk discouraging athletes who are working hard to earn their place through genuine performance.

🇺🇬 Uganda’s Continental Rise — and the Questions That Linger

Despite the controversy, Uganda remains one of Africa’s most vibrant boxing nations. Big names like Shadir Musa Bwogi, Sulaiman Segawa, David Ssemejju, and Stanley Mugerwa continue to fly the flag high.

However, the ongoing ranking inconsistencies highlight the need for fairness, accountability, and standardization across all divisions.

 What’s Next?

All eyes now turn to the November 2025 ABU rankings, with fans hoping to see a correction that reflects Uganda’s true talent order — especially in the hotly debated super featherweight division.

Until then, the question remains:
👉 What’s really going on behind the scenes at the ABU?
