Junior middleweight southpaw Muzamiru “The Real King Kong” Kakande (11-1-1, 7 KOs) delivered a statement performance on Saturday night, stopping England’s Kevin Reavell (6-5-2, 2 KOs) in the ninth round to capture the vacant Silver Commonwealth title. The bout ended at 0:54 of round nine after a powerful Kakande combination left Reavell unable to continue.
The Ugandan opened aggressively, finding early success in the second round when a sharp left hand bloodied Reavell’s nose. In the following frame, Kakande surprised many by switching to orthodox for much of the round, still edging out the action.
Reavell, however, showed grit and resilience. In the fifth and sixth rounds, he found his rhythm, outworking Kakande and landing the cleaner punches while still battling the persistent nosebleed.
Momentum swung back in Kakande’s favor in the seventh. A perfectly timed right hand sent Reavell to the canvas for an eight-count, courtesy of referee Mark Bates. Though Reavell bravely fought on, the damage was beginning to tell.
In the ninth round, Kakande closed the show in emphatic fashion. A crisp combination to the chin floored Reavell once again. Rising unsteadily to his feet, the Englishman wore the look of a beaten fighter, prompting referee Bates to wave off the contest.
With the victory, Kakande not only adds the Silver Commonwealth title to his résumé but also cements himself as one of East Africa’s most promising boxing talents on the international stage.
